چکیده

Bottom boundary layer effects on the linear wave propagation over mild slope bottoms are analyzed. A modifiedWKB approximation is presented including boundary layer effects. Within the boundary layer, two cases are considered: laminar (constant viscosity) and turbulent. Boundary layer effects are introduced by coupling the velocity inside the boundary layer to the irrotational velocity in the core region through the bottom boundary condition. This formulation properly accounts for the phase between near bed velocity and bed shear stress. The resulting differential equation for the energy conservation introduces a new term accounting for the energy losses due to the boundary layer effects.

Evolution of solitary waves and undular bores in shallow-water flows over a gradual slope with bottom friction

This paper considers the propagation of shallow-water solitary and nonlinear periodic waves over a gradual slope with bottom friction in the framework of a variablecoefficient Korteweg–de Vries equation. We use the Whitham averaging method, using a recent development of this theory for perturbed integrable equations. This general approach enables us not only to improve known results on the adia...

Finite Element Model for Wave Propagation Near Shore Based on Extended Boussinesq Equations

This paper describes the numerical model BOUSS-WMH (BOUSSinesq Wave Model for Harbours), a finite element model for nonlinear wave propagation near shore and into harbors. It is based upon an extended version of the Boussinesq equations to which terms were added to generate regular or irregular waves inside the numerical domain, absorb outgoing waves, partially reflect waves at physical boundar...

A Study of the Wave Propagation Velocity in Granular Soils Using Discrete Element Method (DEM)

In the present paper, discrete element method (DEM) is used to study wave propagation phenomenon in granular soils. The effect of factors such as coefficient of friction, frequency, normal stiffness and soil gradation on the wave velocity is studied. Using the wall motion based on the sinusoidal function is the method of loading used in this simulation, through which the pressure wave is transf...

Numerical Solution of Seismic Wave Propagation Equation in Uniform Soil on Bed Rock with Weighted Residual Method

To evaluate the earth seismic response due to earthquake effects, ground response analyses are used to predict ground surface motions for development of design response spectra, to compute dynamic stresses and strains for evaluation of liquefaction hazards, and to determine the earthquake induced forces that can lead to instability of earth and earth-retaining structures. Most of the analytical...
